Getting Rid of Ants Around Hummingbird Feeders

My hummingbirds would not return because of the trails of ants up the pole. I bought some sidewalk chalk and vaseline. I put the chalk around the base of the pole, and greased the fixture with vaseline. Sounds crazy, but no more ants and the hummingbirds are back

I was not aware that ants would not walk through chalk until now! The vaseline makes good sense also. Nothing more disgusting than lots of ants that have drown in the hummingbird feeder.
