MTD Yard Machines 38" Cutting Deck Riding Lawn Mower

I just purchased this riding lawn mower for my dad for Fathers Day 2008. He has about 10 acres of land so taking care of that has been horrific until now.

He loves his new MTD, he said it is actually comfortable and has an adjustable seat.

It is a 6-speed so you can comfortable change gears. Runs great and starts easy, the only complaint he has is the safety blade shut off in reverse.

Otherwise he loves his new mower. We purchased this at Wal-mart for about $900.00, great price for this type of item and from what he's told me it is a wonder machine, has 5 positions to cut the grass at your desired height and it came with a bagger/mulch attachment ~ Thank you Wal-mart :)

Pile Of Crap
by: BAT

I bought the 13.5hp 38 in. cut rider from WalMart in Opelousas La. on 03-20-09. First thing i had to do was put bolts in the seat!!! From the first time I rode it, it would speed up on its own, and I'd have to push the clutch to slow it down.
On 08-05-09 I had to bring it to Daires in Carencrow La. after the timing chain broke. He wouldn't repair the speeding problem saying it was caused by "belts needing adjustment" so wasn't under warranty.
My nephew Josh the mechanic at Billy's in Opelousas said that was a lie and showed me there was only a drive belt and the adjustments were by springs and bolts!!
Anyway the transaxle is now locked and useless.
Please don't buy one of these, especially at Walmart in Opelousas, because of their mechanic.

Deck safety interlock switch seems defective
on our unit. Anyone know which wires connect
with the deck switch?

Mowing in reverse
by: Anonymous

While I advise against it for safety reasons, you can disable the mower shut off when mowing in reverse. Usually there is a safety switch that is compressed when you move the direction lever to the "reverse" position. There is a wire with an end on it that you can pull off the switch. This will now allow you to mow in reverse when you disconnect that wire. Again, if you do this, it is at your own risk.
