How To Keep Deer Out of Your Garden

by Kim

I live in the country and have always had a huge problem with deer getting into my garden. On a hunch, I placed mothballs around the edge of the whole garden. Absolutely no deer have been into my vegetables since the mothballs are there.

I wonder if the mothballs might be toxic to the benifical insects. Perhaps it would be a short term idea until a permenant solution could be found. I heard that lavendar will keep deer out as well.

I have been trying to figure out a low cost way to keep them out of my garden, but I hadn't stumbled upon anything. This is GREAT. I will be buying some mothballs tomorrow. I have used them for many other things, I will just add this one to my list. Thanks :)

Mothballs are a great way to keep Deer out of the garden - it also helps with other pests. Another trick is amonia around the perimeter in which you desire to be pest free. Deer have a heightened sense of smell and will definitely stay away.

I didn't know mothballs would keep the deer away. I have used them around my yard for snakes and in my attic for spiders for years. Guess it's good for more than just moths!
