Vinegar as Weed Whacker

Having problems with wily weeds? Use full-strength vinegar. Just put the vinegar in a sprayer bottle and make sure you thoroughly saturate them.

Vinegar is not only inexpensive but also is safe to use around pets and in the environment. Normally, my weeds will die within 2 days to 2 weeks, depending on how old they are.

Unless you want to kill the surrounding grass too, be careful, because vinegar will make your grass shrivel up and die too!

Oh, and an added bonus for using vinegar outdoors? Ants hate the stuff. So spill a little bit outside your door too, and they will not cross that line into your home.

Weeds & Vinegar
by: dlhunter

I completely agree with both tips -- it works wonderfully for weeds and the bonus is that it does work for ants too.

We go through roughly 2 bottles of vinegar a month to combat both ants and weeds, but it beats complete manual labor and constantly bending over all the time.

Your alternative is to drown the weeds with your water hose and then GENTLY but firmly pulling the weeds out at the roots (read a LOT of work).

Vinegar & Weeds

Who knew vinegar could be used to kill weeds and keep ants out of the house? I also have 2 young kids and 2 dogs, so keeping treatments as natural as possible is very important to me. Many thanks for the info.

Vinegar to the Rescue Again!
by: Michelle

The only other natural weed killing idea I've heard is to use salt water, but it comes with the caveat that it can make it difficult to grow things in that soil afterwards. So I've been reluctant to try it. I've been using vinegar around the house to clean, to help wash produce, etc., but never thought of it as a weed killer! GREAT IDEA! I'll be trying it soon.

Good Vinegar Tip
by: Anonymous

Good tip to use vinegar. It is so much less expensive than those costly products you buy at the garden centers! Vinegar is so much safer to use than those toxic chemicals. Did you know that you can also use apple cider vinegar diluted in water to spray your rose bushes to keep away fungal diseases?
